Your home is the single most important investment you'll make in your life. Ensuring it is cared for and maintained properly is essential. Not only will doing so increase the life of your home, it could also help avoid costly repairs down the road. Here are a list of items that should be completed at least once or twice a year.

1. Checking your smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers

2. Cleaning and replacing your furnace filter

3. Inspect and clean air vents and heat registers

4. Check your water freshener and replenish salt if necessary

5. Have your septic tank inspected and pumped as recommended

6. Power wash the outside of your home to prevent mold growth

7. Clean out your gutters

8. Deep clean your carpets, especially in high travelled areas

9. Vacuum lint from your dryer vent and ensure there are no blockages (these can be serious fire hazards)

10. Oil all squeaky door hinges, both interior and exterior

11. Have your fireplace cleaned and inspected for debris

12. Clean and unclog your drains

13. Ensure your sump pump is operating effectively, and that you have an emergency battery backup installed

14. Look for any signs of pest or rodent activity and treat accordingly

15. Inspect your yard for any trees that need removed, especially those that are close to your home and are at risk of dying
